A few random questions, please help.

1. Why did only 2 kids go away for the summer? I understand Troy because she's a girl but why did they send Nate? He wasn't the only boy, he wasn't the oldest boy and he wasn't the youngest boy. He was just a random boy. I don't know, maybe he won a contest.

2. Why were the 2 grown men hanging out on the stoop singing and playing with the children?

3. In that scene before we realize the mother has died, what is that building with all the steps that the three kids were?

4. In one of the last scenes the youngest boy runs in the house to tell Troy that Spike's character was picking on him and disrespecting their dead mother. Why did he go to Troy when the oldest brother is sitting right beside her and why didn't the oldest brother get up and do anything? He just stayed behind while his little sister and baby brother goes to confront a grown man for disrespecting his dead mother. He didn't even show up in the next scene when Troy hits Spike's character in the head with the stick.

5. Why did Spike Lee play 2 characters (The glue guy and the uncle's wife)?
