Is this Brad Renfro's real accent?

Just wondering, if this was his real accent that he had in the movie?

Assume so. He had that accent in The Cure after.

I would have to say it was his real accent since he was born in Knoxville Tenn.

It was not only his accent, but he was apparently the same kind of spunky kid in real life. Didn't take BS from anyone, no matter how old. He just had to be himself in front of the cameras. Brad wouldn't have been the easiest lil dude in the world to control, but he was brilliant and they loved him. As the director of Stand by Me pointed out, child actors do best when type-casted and allowed to play characters close to their own instincts.
