I was reading the synopsis and it states that Uncle Johnny implies at the end that Barry is to be executed for his failures...
I didn't get that from when I've seen this. I have probably seen the film 3-5 times however it has been a while since I last watched it.
Is this clear? I thought Johnny says something like "it's all over, Barry the Blade" but I thought he meant that there's nothing more that could be done.
I definitely got the impression that they were implying his imminent death. The uncle says something along the lines of "There will be no more mistakes ever again" to Barry 'The Blade' Muldano.
Not only that, but the body language of the two thugs and the uncle made it seem quite clear.
We have too many intellectuals who are afraid to use the pistol of common sense. - Samuel Fuller
That's something that always bugged me about this movie. In the end, they pretty much tell Barry that they're going to whack him. But the mafia doesn't do that. If Goodfellas and Casino has taught me anything, it's that when someone's going to kill you, they never flat out tell you, and they act like you're friend until the very end.
thats not 100% true if a gang is ruthless enough they can get snitches or other liabilities to give themselves up to be slaughtered out of fear of loved ones being sought after. case in point, in god father 2 Frankie five angels is locked down on a federal base after recanting his afidavit. his big worry is that his family won't be taken care of. thats where lawyer Tom Hagen comes in they talk about in the roman empire when an atempt was made on the emperors life failed. the Conspirators were given an oppurtunity to protect their families if they took on the task of killing themselves.
Yeah, Barry got kiiled by the other two. Uncle Johnny said he was glad his sister (Johnny's mother) was dead, which freed him up to get rid of this mess-up who kept drawing attention to their activities. He warned him this was the last chance and said "Do you know what I mean the Last Chance? That was it for Barry, and you could see it in his side glances and nervousness as they penned him in at the door. Anthony LaPaglia was great in this.

I thought it was pretty clear that Barry was about to be killed by the other two thugs. And that was really a pretty stupid thing, since now Reverend Roy still wouldn't get his big conviction or his "CNN interviews and speedy ascent to Capitol Hill". Just another example of a movie screwing things up by not staying more true to the book.
Aside from Billy the Braid, were the thugs going to make another attempt at reclaiming the Senator's body? And if so, would the timing allow them to encounter Reverend Folger's legal beagles in the process?
