did duke have that bar of gold with him the whole time if he had already been to the reburied place and taken gold from there? it's stupid because he knew all along that the gold was not buried where mitch was going, and because he had the gold just when mitch is getting out of the shower, it means he had it with him the whole time, or stashed somewhere in las vegas and he picked it up to show mitch.

Duke did not have the bar of gold the whole time.. The only thing Duke had was the missing corner of the map with the real X that marks the spot.. Duke needed Mitch's ( Billy Crystal) part of the map so he could figure out his starting point of where to start to look for the treasure.
Yes once Duke saw the map, he probably figured out their map would not lead them to the treasure because he had the missing conrner of the map. When they found the cave at the end and found the "treasure" in the cave, Duke was surprised but relieved when the treasure was a fake.. After Duke left the gang, he went and dug up the real treaure. Dukes intention was to keep the treasure all for himself but had a change of heart and told mitch about the gold at the end of the movie..
I guess the ending of the movie could have been better but it was not all that bad :)

but anyone could have got billy crystals map, it was given out free in the souvenir store, so why would he need billy crystal for something that amounts to a walmart catalogue.
also you say that duke went and got the gold bar. where do you think? in a locker?
also the missing piece of the map which he had all along says "reburied here" so he knew(duke) that the gold was never in the location that the tourist map, that billy crystal has says, so why on earth would he be suprised or disapointed??? it doesnt make sense..
Also, billy crystal goes to las vegas right after the fake gold hunt incident, and duke comes in saying he found the real gold 'and its got friends', but he didnt have the time, to go to the real gold spot dig it up, bring it back to las vegas to show billy crystal just as he exits the shower, its impossible, he didnt have enough time to do all that...its a big plot hole...can anyone explain how all this is possible within the same day, i doubt it, because it just isn't

shareSome won't see it this way, but I thought he found out about the corner being in his hat after the failed expedition. You know after wondering around for a few hours he might've thought about something being in his hat too. I mean, I know I would. As for him not having the time to go get/find the real gold, I'll chuck it up to movie suspension-of-disbelief.
