Can someone explain. . .???

Can anyone explain/map out the narrative timeline between the two stories?
I’m a little confused. . .

Near the end of the first story there is a shot of Bridgette Lin smoking a cigarette outside of a toy store where Faye Wong walks out with a Garfield stuffed animal, which we later see in the second half when she redecorates cop 663’s apartment.

However, at the end of story 1, COP 223 brushes past Faye Wong and in V.O he says something like 6 hours later she fell in love with another man, COP 663.

If the two stories run parallel with each other as the earlier toy store scene suggests, then how is it that the end of story 1 transitions to the beginning of story 2?

Unless of course the beginning of story 2 resets itself to the time when story 1 also starts, but even so, it still wouldn’t make sense with what Cop 223 says at the end . . .any thoughts?
