Cabin Boy took some ideas from the movie "Captains Courageous"(1937). In this movie, Spencer Tracy's character picks up a wealthy boy thrown over a cruise ship and teaches him how to fish and work on the boat with the other fisherman. Anyone else saw it?

Cabin boy and Almost Heroes are some of the funniest movies I've seen in a while... I guess most people don't get the .. style... whatever it may be called.
Yes, it's similar to Captains Courageous because it's SPOOFING Captains Courageous. The other movie they used for inspiration was 7th Voyage of Sinbad.
