I'm not from the UK so i'm not 100% sure but i think the UK is really concerned with teens and murder for some odd reason. Which i don't really get since i don't think its quite the epidemic it is here in the States. It doesn't surprise me though since they did ban Child's Play for almost a decade.
sharehuh, i never notice that childs play waz banned. that's really stupid, i saw it when i waz 8, and i thought it was funny.
it's weird that they keep changing it, cuz the last dvd release was a 15, but apparently the new one is gonna be an 18. nuts!

It was Child's Play 3 that was banned, and it was because two sick and twisted kids decided to murder a small boy called Jamie Bulger in the style of the finale of the movie. Obviously, movies are to blame, and not the parents for letting their kids watch the movie, or for bringing their kids up so negligently that they never bothered to say "Don't kill people, it's wrong" or the kids for being so effing sick and twisted in the first place. It's all down to the movies. (Sorry about the rant, but this still bothers me, because I watched CP3 when I was the same age as the kids, and I turned out just fine, probably because I had good parents and was never mentally unhinged).

I had an ex-rental VHS copy of the movie - I can’t remember what the certificate was (because this film is doomed, it got repeatedly nicked by my so-called “friends”), finally I invested in the DVD a few months ago. Anyway, the first murder scene is much more elaborate than on the original release. In the VHS copy, Michael stabbed the guy twice, there was a cut to the ginger cat, then the victim left his handprint on the wall, then fell to the floor, then Trickster advised that Michael should check he was dead, then “and now for a little creativity...?”
In the DVD version, it’s much more graphic, more stabbing, more long shots, and you actually see the foot being removed.
It bothered me for years that Trickster said “When he got up and started dancing...” because as far as I’d seen, the victim hadn’t done anything but die quietly.
My memory is a little hazy, since I've not seen the VHS version for years, thanks to the thieving gits I used to call my friends.
So, perhaps the elongated death scene was what prompted the rating to be upped?
