The Trickster is actually kind of a good guy!

I know people didn't really like the end. But I think the Trickster WAS real. Edward Furlong's character was basically a recluse, a video game addict. But after he breaks the hypnosis, he basically changes his ways. So the Trickster is a kind of Anti-Hero, I guess. And at the end, I guess he was going to make the principal change his ways and let the horror club alone!

The trixter says "I am you" to Michael at one point so I think he is part of the person's personality. I wonder what will happen when the principal plays the game.

Yes, there's a lot to think about after viewing or while re-viewing the movie, it's a pretty complex, sharp and smart screenplay (by a future Oscar winner).

I guess he is supposed to appear as a benevolent seducer, similar to Mephistopheles in Goethe's 'Faust'. Both nurture the respective protagonist's hidden and not-so-hidden urges with evil intent.
Of course my interpretation falls flat when it comes to the ending.
