Brainscan 2 in the works
Columbia Tristar pictures are distributing "Brainscan 2: Ascension" with Edward Furlong set to return. This could be very interesting, I am looking forward to it.

shareI am also looking forward to it, but I am reading/hearing stuff about a sequel
since early 1995. And even if so I do not think Edward Furlong would participate
(even though I love his work and the movie itself)
Brainscan is my all time favorite movie. I havent heard anything about there being a part 2?? i hope there is though, i would love to see it. where did you hear about it at? or if you have any information on it, that would be awesome!
share-sticker741: Around 1995/1996 there were hot discussions about a sequel, including all the
original crew and cast members being interested. I read it back then in
"Fangoria". In many issues they talked about it but then it somehow stopped and
since then I (sadly) never heard anything about it again.
I think it is great you called it one of your favorite movies or favorite one.
Some may think that there are thousand movies better but Brainscan has just got
a great atmosphere about it and I love it too!
I also love Brainscan,
while it's not my altime favourite is on my top ten favourites of all time.
Brainscan rocks!
A sequel would be intriguing, yet don't you think Eddy is getting on a bit?
Cheers,
Peace and metal!
-silentbobsmum: Maybe he would do it (if it were the same director or stuff were he would have
a good feeling about how it would turn out), but I think this train left.
I read that Brainscan2 is not in the works, but just on the drawing board for a possible sequel for a direct to video release in 2005. Edward Furlong hasn't been contacted to play the part in nearly 7 years. More than likely it won't be Furlong but a new face of Hollywood.
shareWhy would they make a sequel to this film?
Admittedly, this film is kinda cool, but it does suck on the grand scale of things. Was it ever a success? It was a Straight To Video bomb here in the UK. I doubt Edward Furlong would do it. I imagine he finds the original an embarrassment to his career.
Don't get me wrong though, I sadly like this piece of trash.
An embarrassment to Edward Furlong's career? He's a cokehead for god sakes! It'd definitely but him a few fixes.
shareThe director died..at least someone said on his board. This is the only movie I've seen of his but now I'm interested in checking out the others.
Brainscan - 10/10
The Core - 5/10
If the sequel idea actually gets somewhere, and if this project is really worth anything, hopefully they'll try to get Frank Langella to return. He's always excellent, and gets far too few roles.
I saw the last half hour of this movie twice. Two times in the past two years I've woken up and it was on Encore. More or less I saw the same parts of the movie. It sucked both times.
sharechavez, if the last half sucked the first time you watched it, why on earth would you watch the last half a second time? I mean seriously did you think some kind of fantasy crap was going to happen to where your brain went back into the past and re-wrote the script?
You're A Genius.
I could see how people would hate this movie today, I mean I watched it when I was 13 and then it was an awesome movie, but I watch it now and it's not so great...all I'm saying is why watch something twice if you don't like it.
No need to be so critical.
He probably watched it twice because he had just woken up. I've watched the Chuck Norris infomercial several times unfortunately - a victim of keeping my tv tuned at night to a channel that shows paid programming.
or....
He might have thought he could get a different outlook on the movie a second time. What I'm wondering is why he think its important to tell us that he thought the movie sucked only after he had woken up to watch it. I wonder if all movies suck when we watch them after waking up. Strange.
or....
He could be part of a secret cult that rents movies or watches them on tv only so he could watch the second half of movies and then comment on message boards about how "sucky" they are, only so he can get an explicit response by somebody who questions his motives and somebody else who calls him a genius. Actually that one's pretty unbelievable.
I'll go with reason #3. It sounds like the most plausable.
I care about the size of your penis as much as you care about the size of my breasts.

Brainscan was NOT a straight-to-video bomb in the UK. It was released in cinemas in Oct 1994.
shareSadly it was also a straight-to-video bomber in Germany (where I live)...would have been great to see this one in cinemas!

I still want to nail the girl who plays his neighbor. I don't know why but I think she is the hottest chick in a movie since the girl who plays Supergirl...I have odd tastes in women I guess. I would like to see a sequal now that video game technology is so much more advanced. I doubt Furlong will do it, unless he needs coke money. Maybe the neighbor chick or his metalhead buddy will be in it! Those are the two best characters.

I don't think it would be hard to get Edward Furlong back in the fold. What does he have going on in his career right now? I don't think this straight to DVD release will damage his other straight to dvd releases. I mean Crow 4? He looks like a fat girl in 7th grade, and his acting is slipping. I dug Brainscan when it was in theatres, and I would rent a sequal if it went to dvd. Though my tastes have diversified, I can still enjoy it for some of its cheesiness.
PS the dude is messed up.
Well seeing a Brainscan 2 would be worth it if we can see Amy Hargreaves in the movie. She was hot in the orginal Brainscan and I believe she is available even if Edward Furlong isn't.
shareNo Furlong = No masterpiece = No Fate
"..wwwwWWWWWIIIIIIIIIINDDD!!!" - ...D.
that is hilarious
shareThe original message posted in 2003, but now it's almost 2006. Still no movie!
sharethis makes me sad.
and yeah, i dont think it would be hard at all for them to get furlong for a sequel. seriously--crow 4?.. what else has he to lose?

i would rather not have a sequel but edward is returning sooooo i'll give it a chance.
brainscan is the best though

Interesting to say the least! I just got the movie from Netflix. Hadn't seen it in a good 5-10 years. I remember watching it as a kid with all the "cool" technology Furlong had in the movie.
After watching it today I laughed my ass off, but it still was great. Memories of my youth are always fun. :)
Everybody is making sequel's now, but to see Furlong in it would be a total trip!
Except for his whiny voice, I think he's a great actor. His role in American History X was mind blowing.
haha i love the way everyone is so technical and emotional in their posts. i loved brainscan, blew my mind. of course i was 15 and high as a kite.... watching it straight sucks. new veiwers smoke a big fatty and then watch, it will be so much better then. same with the matrix... i had nightmares for days i tell you! days!!

how about it has Furlong's kid find a copy of the game and the Trickster uses him as a ploy to get furlong to play the game again.

I think they filmed it in Canada. If I was a producer or film maker, I would do the sequel.
You've got already a great villain.
You've got potential for a good script.
Pretty sure that Furlong would be available.
We've got great actresses here in Quebec (like in the first one, Michèle Barbara Pelletier)
** Even if that movie is underrated, I found a similar feel in Brainscan that I found in Halloween. I won't say that it's as good as Halloween. NO. I just say that the score / music is great. To this day, that's the only movie who gave me that Halloween mood / athmosphere.
Brainscan 2008. Why not?
shareNoone who has ever actually watched the movie can deny that Trickster is one of the coolest villians to be created. To ignore the movie, never make a sequel, and leave him to die in obscurity is a tragedy.

I've watched the movie and I can easily say he is not one of the coolest villains. The movie starts out good then just gets sillier and sillier
After all those years, i'm still apreciate the beginning with the so good score. The music is fantastic when the movie begins. The first part of the movie is really good. I agree that the second part is not as good. But, I would like to see a sequel.
A Fright Night 3 too!
matt go git buttslammed and shut up.. The movie is classic and rocks dickface

While that sequel never took place I must admit that as much as I love Brainscan and I feel it is way underrated if you think about it, it would have to be an amazingly differnt idea and story to make a sequel work.
One of the reasons why brainscan was so amazing was that it fooled you into believing that Michael really was a killer. So if you make a sequel and you know the scam of the first movie, how would it work? It would have to be a radically different idea and even then the whole basic premise of Brainscan just being a game would be obvious to the audience and therefore the sequel would fail.
Like I said, I love Brainscan in every way and it's one of the best horror movies ever made BUT a sequel just wouldn't work. Another thing to note is that the writer of this film is one of Hollywood's ELITE writers which is probably why it was so well written. Andrew Kevin Walker. He's an amazing talent, repsonsible for such other hits like Se7en, Sleepy Hollow, 8MM, and right now working on The Wolf Man which stars Sir Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro.
Actually Walker is well respected in the business by most directors. Even his good buddy, the amazingly talented, David Fincher, pays homage to Andrew in Fight Club. Remember the 3 cops that try to cut off Tyler Durden's balls near the end of Fight Club? They were named, Andrew, Kevin and Walker. An interesting little side note.
In conclusion, Brainscan is intuitive, creative, original, well made, fabulous music score by George S. Clinton, great performances all around and to boot they even scored Frank Langella for it! I was very impressed with this film. It's very underrated, it's a shame other people didn't seem to enjoy the concept as much as me, but to each their own.
