This from the Director of Spies Like Us and Animal House?
I really wanted to like this film. Believe me, I tried very hard to like this film but no matter how hard I squinted at the screen and tried to imagine this as a classic, it fell short at almost every turn.
Granted, the scene with Bronson Pinchot is funny as he is an underrated comic genius. You can quote me on that.
Since we aready know that there weren't any laugh out loud funny scenes and that the premise was tired, I'd rather focus on the look and feel of the film.
The earlier two had that gritty look of real film while this one looks like it was shot in the poorest quality film (video, perhaps?) and even poorer quality lighting and editing.
I really admire the work of John Landis but did he really sit down and watch Tony Scott's Beverly Hills Cop II to see how smooth, cinematic, well-lit and grand it appeared on the big screen?
Why would he have wanted to make his film look about as aesthetically pretty as Police Academy VI? It makes no sense.
Your thoughts, please...
