What ruined the film for me
25 minutes into the film, Axel is inside the underground offices at Wonder World. Seconds earlier, the tunnel was full of people, but they all conveniently vanish.
The two suited security guards are ordered to "get him". They must already know that he's a cop, unless they gun down random visitors to their offices. So one of the guys decides to shoot at Axel. WTF? I'm not American, but I'm pretty sure that shooting at police officers carries serious jail time. If you shoot at a cop, he sees your face, and you let him get away, you are screwed.
So, the security at Wonder World now have to kill Axel. OK. Axel makes his dramatic rescue and then gets dragged off by the security goons.
Axel find himself back in the office chatting to their boss. He naturally asks why he was shot, they smugly bring in the security tape that has been altered so you can't see Axel being shot at. This hardly counts as proof that Axel wasn't shot at - in fact it makes Axel's story more believable. For some reason, they decide not to kill him for now.
Ellis De Wald turns up and enrages Axel, then the police arrive. Axel doesn't even bother mentioning to Billy that the security guys shot at him, we are supposed to have forgotten about that now.
So from now on, we have no idea whether or not the bad guys are prepared to use deadly force, and whether the bad guys can actually suffer any consequences from attacking Axel.
