I have been wondering this recently: I remember the part when Roger was asking his dad when they can be a family and his dad said "When the Angels win the pendant.". Did that mean "Never gonna happen"? Because at that point when they started winning, due to Roger's prayer wish, Roger's dad didn't want him anymore. I might've missed something, I haven't watched this movie in a long time. So correct me if I am wrong.

You pretty much had a clue that Roger's father wasn't coming back. He really didn't want the responsibility of taking care of his son (Remember what he said about Roger's mother). His attitude (Especially the way he put out the cigarette on his pants)was totally non-caring. He even sold the truck so he can have a motorcycle (He's only thinking of himself at this point).

I wondered about that...he's given up hope that they'll reunite; he no longer has a vehicle for more than 1 person and tries to break it to him easy, but can use his $ on cigarettes and is very indifferent (is he trying to spare more pain by not doing an emotional good-bye?). What an oxymoron.

They win the PENNANT, not pendant. Do you know anything about sports? And he was being an *beep* basically saying when pigs fly out my ass.... when a horrible team wins the AL championship... it's not going to happen.

Well excuse me for misspelling pennant, Mr. Sports Enthusiast. You don't have to be such an ass about it. It's been a while since I posted here, so I pretty much get the whole point of that subplot. I thank everyone except Natedog869, who was pretty much an ass about me misspelling a word.

I agree with you. That guy was a buffoon. "DON"T YOU NO NETHNG BOUT SPRTS!!!"

No, because another word for 'sports' is 'games that you watch other people earn 30,000 dollars a minute playing'.
Sorry if I don't have time to follow the latest game or care how you spell a word relating to said game, but we have things more productive to do, such as anything not involving the sports that you revolve your void life around.

while that guy was being a jackass to you, the fact that you have the time to watch other people "earn 30,000 dollars a minute acting" is just as bad as sports. If your gonna insult the sports industry for being overpaid, you have to insult the movie, music, and tv industries as well.

I can't believe how many people don't get this. And also note that Roger prayed for a family, and he ended up getting it when the Angels won the pennant.
