Spring Board for famous actors?

What's the deal with this film? Did it spring board the careers of a good number of now famous actors or is it simply coincidence that Adrien Brody, Neal McDonough, and Matthew McConaughey all have starring roles in this film and have since become big name actors... hmmmmm....

No really. I'm sure everyone on this board thinks that Angels got McConaughey going. But seriously, look at this cast! Glover, Danza, Lloyd, Ben Johnson from bonanza! Gordon Levitt was on third rock, and his movie the lookout propelled his popularity. McDonough, Brody, and McConaughey all just add to this amazing cast! And when i say amazing, i say it because this is some second rate disney movie, that probably used half its budget to rent out the Oakland Collasium! Props to the guy who did the casting for this flick.

And how about Dermot Mulroney who played Joseph Gordon Levitt's dead beat dad?

HA! HA!

and to think I thought Lethal Weapon might have had something to do with it...as well as The Color Purple.

reply

Yeah, I thought the Lethal Weapon movies had something to do with Glover's career too.

I'm glad someone mentioned Dermot Mulroney Okay, he was in the first Young Guns, but the term springboard doesn't mean it's someone's first film.

How about character actors Tony Longo, Jay O. Sanders, Tim Conlon and Taylor Negron? I've seen all of them in other projects.

I think the point hits home about McCounaghay and McDonough (two years later, he would have a major role in "Star Trek: First Contact).

Actually, aside from Glover, Danza and Brenda Fricker, I think all of these actors have used this film as a springboard in one way of the other.

Is your point so weak that you must have the last word?

reply

OMG, ok, I used to love this movie (before the stupid Angels had to go and beat the Yankees, boo) but I was never an Adrien Brody fan until like King Kong and The Village. So I decided that I wanted to go back and see what other movies of his I had somehow missed, and I saw Angels in the Outfield and was like "say what now?!" Anyway, my point is, this movie has so many amazing actors in it, and I never really thought about it as more than a Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Danny Glover, Matthew McConaughey movie. Strange...

I think this movie at the time had a great mix of experienced actors and actors that were up and coming. I didn't realize that Adrien Brody was in the movie until a couple of years ago.
