Why did ranch get fired?
I was curious on why it happened. And who gives a damn if he has a contract you get fired, you're out on the street.

shareBecause he was a jackass and started whining and complaining after the Angels beat the White Sox
shareOh. Ok thanks Ranch was a d ick and also it was funny when he said "I'M RANCH WILDER!"
shareYOU CAN'T FIRE ME! I'M RAAANCH WILDER!!
I hate children's art! ~Crispin Glover~
Easy Ranch less is more.

Because he was the Angels' sportscaster yet he tried to sabotage the team which pissed off Ben Johnson the team owner (who is his boss, i guess). And if there is one rule, thats you don't f(ck with Ben Johnson.
shareBecause Ranch is biased against the team that he is working for. He's also trying to get all the airtime by almost always denying his partner a chance to speak. Have you ever heard in real life of any sportscaster having a bias against any team (Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, etc) that he's broadcasting for?
shareWhen you have a contract, you're not at-will, which means they need to pay you off to fire you. You can get fired, but it costs the company.
At least I think so.
How do you know he didn't have a buy clause or something in his contract? Plus, I would think a MLB team can afford to fire and hire people at will. Plus, he was kind of an ass. He should have been fired a long time ago.
shareSports team owners fire people with contracts all the time. They do have to pay the rest of the salary agreements to those who get fired early sometimes many team owners are so wealthy that it might not hurt or the franchises at all.
shareAll I could say was- IT'S ABOUT TIME I...Am...ETERNAL
shareA lot of what happened in the movie didn't make any sense, except for the benefit of moving the plot along and for dramatic effect.
Ranch should have been fired the first time he said something negative about the Angels. The only reason he was fired at the end of the movie was for dramatic effect.
As for his contract, like some other posts have said, a sports team owner might have to pay out some or all of someone's contract if he fires him. This is probably more likely the case with a player who is fired or sent down to the minors, but there are probably some rules that are still applicable. The two examples I can think of are when Ryan Seacrest replaced Rick Dees on the radio. Rick Dees had a contract worth something around $20M. The radio station had to pay him all of that. The same thing happened years ago with radio personality Moby on 97FM in Houston. When the radio changed formats, they no longer wanted Moby on the air, but he had a contract, so he got paid.
I don't know if that would be the same case with Ranch because he's being fired for his poor performance and going against the team he's supposed to be supporting.
My guess is it that Ranch really was a pain in the @$$ to work with.
He really was a miserable creep who like to put his cigarettes in co-workers coffees, yell and berittle at his admin lady, and make numerous rude comments behind people's backs.
OK, that last one is a guilty pleasure by 70% of all broadcasters.
And you really do have to have your stat sheets ready so 50% of all would do that.
Mainly, all sports announcers are like that but fear not I'm sure after his firing another team maybe minor, or little league picked him up.
But mainly, Ranch was just a hot dog who just liked being rude.
All of these things would lead to decision days, conference chats, coaching, write ups, talks, warnings, disciplinary acts, etc.
What spiked it was that he had to go public with the Roger Bowman seeing angels stuff. Oh yes, he drilled George Knox right in the ground. But little old Maggie comes up to the podium to defend an injured Roger who's father just walked out on him (lesson about a person who's lost everything will now have nothing else to lose) and says her speech about God and angels working on the same team. The players then stood up with her saying, "well I don't know what it is, but we are winning. And I'll never play for another manager other than George Knox," which Hank Murphy realized maybe he was too quick at writing George Knox off.
To be truthful, I think at that moment Hank Murphy decided to fire Ranch Wilder. He just decided to give him until the end of the season w/o telling him just so he could be an @$$ for another day.
