Why the pennant??

Why not the world series???

Also it's crazy how far 50 Cent has come since this movie!

reply

1. Because it's what the father said.

2. That's not 50 Cent.

Why not the pennant?

There's more drama in just 'the pennant'. Shows that the team is so buried that just clinching a division will reveal hope. A shred of realism... In a story involving supernatural phenomena and a head coach who assaults his players.

Once upon a time the pennant was huge. It was before extra divisions and wildcards watered down the post season.

It's the same reason "Major League" ends when the Indians win the division. The White Sox had been built up as the villains all through the movie. It works a lot better than having the Angels beat some random National League team we haven't seen up to that point.
