Anyone find what happened to Roger rather disheartening?
Near the beginning of the film, Roger and his dad were having a conversation and possibly reuniting as a family together if the Angels won the pennant. It said it so sarcastically that his own son believed him. Otherwise Roger wouldn't have prayed for his team to win to be his dad. Spoiler Alert!!!! Towards the end, Roger has to a court hearing involving his dad that he no longer had custody of his child. He now belonged to the state of CA.
I don't know about everyone, but this hit close to home for me. Especially that scene! When a loved one or someone you really cared/liked say one thing, and they don't stick to their word. I felt for the Roger character personally not because I too was an Angel fan, but to find out what the person said actually happens only to be let down.
I'm sure anyone who's been an Angels fan around the mid 80's, when the team was literally ONE strike away of making the World Series. Only for Donnie Moore to give up that home run to Dave Henderson to tie, only to lose it to extras. Only to lose momentum in the final 2 games and be eliminated. Moore didn't recover 3 years afterwards resulting in suicide of himself and family involved. Or how about the Angels in 1995 having a 10 game lead over SEA only for their lead to evaporate resulting in a tie between the two teams? This led to a one game playoff between Seattle and Randy Johnson losing that game 9-1. But it was worth in 2002, when the Angels in their first WS appearance won their first championship in their team history.
