'MIND GAMES' 12th SEPT 08

Hello
In tonight's episode, one of Frost's old cases was opened up when a convicted murderer was released at the end of his prison sentence. The details of the original investigation - a 14 yr old girl found murdered and her friend missing presumed murdered with a subsequent arrest etc - seemed very familiar and I assumed that the story was a continuation of an earlier episode I'd seen years ago. However, the murders took place 1988-90 and I don't think the series goes back that far. Can anyone shed any light on why it was so familiar?
Thanks

The series started when he was already an Inspector. These murders were when he was a sergeant. So - afaik - not a crime that has been mentioned in the series before.

I could spot aspects of 3 well-known real-life cases: one with a guy who was "a bit slow" being wrongly convicted; one with two girls murdered in a village; one with a body that is missing years later, even though the killer has been (apparently) caught.

Maybe that's why some of the made-up story seemed a bit familiar?

The reason it sounds so familiar, is because this storyline (dead teenager, wrong person gets locked up) has already been used once in A Touch of Frost, though I can't be sure which episode it was. But I am sure it was a Frost episode.
