In the book Whitney was also different

In the film Whitney was skinny and frail, with no mention of him being in the military. In the novel Whitney was overweight, in the army and was a former cook while in the military. Regardless, still one of my favorite characters. At least Whitney had the courage to stand up to Flagg.

It did give another side to Randell's army that not all were crooks or bad people at first site. Also I was happy to see someone stand up to him and not to brainwashed
Quite so, but like Nadine, he seemed to discover a bit late the fact that Flagg's feet were made of clay.

I refer, as an example, to the incident with Hec Drogan.
