Shawnee Smith seems to be playing her character like a sexy Winnie the Pooh character, scratch that... not sexy, over the top, teen angst drunken psychopath... lol wow that was ridiculous.

That was how Julie Lawry (her character) was presented in the book.

She could appear as a combination of both childlike innocence and seductive, voluptuous sexuality. Vulnerable and yet predatory at the same time.

Julie's character was a mass of contradictions, and I think Shawnee Smith did a very good job of acting here. Over the top? Perhaps, but her character was also over the top.

Oh ya she was awesome, I loved it, it was deliciously crazy :)

I forgot her character from the book, but I read it when I was 13, 30 years ago!

It was my pleasure.

I have read the book many times and it is my favorite novel by King and among my all-time favorites by any writer.

Nick was right to be wary of her. I don't think her effect on Tom would have good at all. Not to mention her effect on Nick.
