I think one of the reasons why the novel (and mini-series) is so good is because we can all see ourselves as certain characters. I wish I could see myself as Stu Redman, but because of my disability I see myself as Nick Andros. Which isn't a bad thing.

I see myself as Rita, for I'm not used to take care of myself that well - no, I'm not such a pussy like her but that's true I'd have problems with fitting in the world after an apocalypse - I'm this type of a person who is sitting in front of the computer all day long, I hate sports and the like.

I've played in bands since I was a freshman in high school. That started about 20 years ago. I play bass and guitar. Some bands have been good some bad. I've played every kind of music imaginable. It never has been a serious thing. Just a really fun thing to do to occupy my time. Anyway, couldn't resist the joke above.

Of course with my hearing, it would be difficult, but Ludwig van Beethoven composed many of his greatest works after he was deaf.

I don't think I'm as strong as Fran, but I could see myself as Lucy. She had some redeeming qualities about her. Her love for Joe (in the movie). Her insecurities were over the top regarding Nadine and Mother Abigail but her love and loyalty to Larry was precious.

Even though there many differences in how this was presented, it came across quite well in the book as well. In the book, Nadine was the one who was originally with Joe, and not Lucy. share

I identify with and probably am closest to Glen Bateman, the professor Stu meets in New England. He's the Wise Geek type, always dispensing advice, giving thoughtful counsel, and basically being a stable rock for the rest of the Boulder Free Zone Committee to anchor themselves around.
