The idea of walking from Boulder, Colorado to Las Vegas, Nevada is pretty much absurd. That's 821 miles through a lot of harse terrain. Now then, if they take the right tools or flotation equipment to float down the Colorado River, then they might have a chance. Perhaps if the rules allow them to be driven to the top of Trail Ridge Road and if they bring along pull carts and if they load up the carts with gooey candy at the top, then maybe.

And you're right: on the surface, it does look absurd. But there was a very good reason for it, and that was forcing them to cast off material things, and engage in an emptying-out process where The Four would then be filled with something else entirely: God.
It seemed kind of akin to the walk to Mordor by Sam and Frodo in The Lord of the Rings.
