I'm up to the 5th season on my recordings of the re-runs and was wondering if the grandfather ever appears again?
Sarah says something about him in the 3rd episode. Don't think she says for sure though..
No return. Six episodes in all, five in season two and his final appearance was in 'Christmas' of season three. Therein it's discovered that he's not in the best of health. He leaves in the end with no further tale to be told.
shareGrandpa Jacob 'Jake' Gordon (Carroll O'Connor) appeared during most of the second half of Season 2, and his final appearance was the Christmas episode of Season 3. In that episode, he shows up to celibrate Chriastmas, but both Julia and Claudia notice that he is not in the best of health. He hastily departs in the middle of the night from the Salinger house because he secretly tells Charlie that he has cancer and doesn't want to stick around anymore to be a burden on them. After that, Jake is never seen or mentioned again in the series.
