Amber is the worst mother ever!

I know she isn't abusive and is not *literally* the worst mother ever but she's pretty awful. All she cares about is drinking, acting obnoxious, impressing other people and she's too busy acting like a teenager herself to be a real parent. She ignores her daughter when she tries to talk to her anout anything serious, allows her to drink and do god knows what else as long as it's in "moderation," her daughter OD's and all she does is scream at her, call her a drunk and runs out the door to go get nailed by some creep.

I freaking hate this woman!

Agreed. Since we never see rickies family, amber was my only beef with the show. I realize these are people with flaws but everyone showed growth except amber. She didn't seem to take any responsibility for her daughters choices. I'm sorry, at 25, rayanne is not done being raised and still needs guidance. Fix the child a meal!!! Sometimes it really is that simple.

My mom was strict--way stricter than Patty--and I hated it but I've met people with mothers like Amber and now I am glad my mom was strict. I mean she could've lightened up a tad but in general I'm glad now that she wasn't one of these parents who doesn't care what their kids do.

My parents were fairly strict with me, kind of like Angela's parents, but taught me to use my common sense and have pride in myself. I am now 26. I have a great relationship with my parents and I am very happy with my life. My mom's best friend, on the other hand, was more like Amber. She was too busy acting like a teenager herself to raise her kids right, and she never had a good man to be a father figure to her girls. Now that her daughters are grown (my age), she has nothing but regrets. Both of her daughters' lives are a mess. They have 5 kids between them that they can barely take care of, both of them have legal problems, and neither of them have decent men in their lives. My mom constantly thanks me for being "such a good kid", unlike her friend's kids.

I'm not saying that everyone that was raised by a parent like Amber or my mom's friend will grow up to be crappy people, but it happens a lot. Also, not all kids who were raised in healthy homes will grow up to be well-adjusted adults, but they have a better chance at it than those who were raised by bad parents.

LOL yeah, it makes me angry everytime she's on screen!
But that's exactly why Rayanne was the way she is and why her character was so wild and out of control...because she has Amber as a mother!
Plus that's another reason why Rayanne admires Angela and wants to be her because she has a normal family with parents who care for her, are strict with her, cook her real home-cooked meals and blah blah blah! Alot of Rayannes character is about how much she wished she was Angela and had her life, so Amber being a *beep* mother all adds up to why Rayanne's character is so screwed up! If we had more series, Rayanne's character could have had more story-lines of growing up and changing or becoming just like Aamber...we'll never know so she'll always just be a *beep* mother to us! LOL
