Angela's different life, had she stayed with Sharon?

Did you ever notice, or wonder how different Angela's life would have been, had she stayed friends with Sharon?
During "The zit" when Angela sees Sharon with her boyfriend...you get to see over the next couple of episodes how Sharon ends up become one of the popular girls who hangs out with the popular girls and the jocks while Angela strays from the crowd becoming invisible!
I often wonder how different Angela's life would have been had she hung out with Sharon.
I think Sharon would have introduced Angela to one of Kyle's friends so she would have ended up with a jock boyfriend and she would have ended up hanging with the popular girls because they were friends with Sharon so she would have gone to their party's too!
What are your thoughts? What do you think would have happened to Angela had she stayed friends with Sharon?

That's an interesting question. I think Angela would've felt left out, and less of a sense of belonging, had she just stayed friends with Sharon. Sharon fit very easily into that popular/jock crowd and it seemed like those things were what was important to her. I think Angela had less in common with Sharon at that point and would not have been happy tagging along with her to the places Sharon's friends would hang out at. I could see Sharon trying to set Angela up with one of Kyles idiot friends, but I don't see Angela going for that. I also don't think it'd be a stretch of imagination to see Angela end up in an abusive relationship or even date-raped had she gone with one of Kyle's jock buddies...

On a side note - I hated all those faces that Sharon made all the time - she could be pretty annoying, but I really liked her interactions with Rayanne.

I do agree with you. Angela would have been very lonely and never fit in with that crowd.

Catalano would never go for that group!

Interesting thoughts but I disagree. I think the very reason Angela pulled away from Sharon was because Angela could sense Sharon shifting towards the jock crowds with her cute blouses and matching hair scrunchies and a preppy attitude. Angela craved different. She didn't want the status quo do she started running with a girl that dressed weird and had the crazy hair and the "who gives a eff" attitude. Sharon would die if she were late to class or missed a homework assignment or worse, overslept and forgot her makeup.

Angela just wasn't that kind of girl. She didn't know who she was but she had a better chance at funding herself amongst rayannes crowd. And in tge end, she saw she wasn't all that different from Sharon after all. Sharon ended up having that deep live for her friend as evidenced in the bathroom when she rails on rayanne for. Sleeping with Jordan.

Sharon may not have ever gotten back into best friend status with Angela, but she was always going to have her back.

Your theory would make good season 2 fodder. Maybe she would go to Sharon's crowd to help ease her pain from rayanne. Though I think that would have been temporary. Great discussion though!

wow! talk about missing the entire point of the series!

WOW! Talk about being a condescending bitch!
Leave your thoughts on what you think Angela's life would have been like or don't post at all! No one asked for a two-faced comment did they? No, just a thought for you to take a moment to wonder about a "What if"? Or is that something your mind can't comprehend so you have to make a rude comment to feel involved?

I think your suppositions are incorrect. If Angela had wanted to stay friends with Sharon and get a jock boyfriend, she would have. She didn't because that was not who she was. I think it's silly to speculate about this, because it completely discounts who the character was, and what the show was about. Those are my thoughts on your "what if." If that makes me a condescending bitch, I don't really care.

I thought the question was very interesting.
Life in general can be full of "what if's", so what's wrong with discussing it here?
Who are you to tell someone that their thoughts are silly?...............

Oh and yeah, you said it, you are a condescending bi*ch.
In fact I'm sensing a bit of jealousy here, and a great deal of aggression....Tut! Tut!

I think it's just very hard to say - the very reason Angela pulled away from Sharon to become best friends with Rayan was because she changed so much and became disenchanted with convention and the "status quo," which Sharon represented. So if Angela stayed the same but still maintained her friendship with Sharon she would have felt increasingly untrue to herself, phony and uncomfortable. If she didn't have those feelings, then that version of Angela would be a completely different person from the one we came to know from these episodes. Btw, there's a very similar theme with the main character on Freaks and Geeks - leaving one "conventional" friend to hook up with outsiders.

Which is not necessarily to say that Angela wouldn't have been better off staying on the straighter more conventional path. Even though she may have been truer to herself with Rayan, she remained an angst ridden mess with almost no self-confidence.

I don't think that Angela actually would have needed Sharon as a way in with the jocks and the popular crowd. I think that they were both already pretty immersed in that world when Angela pulled away.

Remember there was that scene where Angela talks about girls having to pretend that they don't notice boys checking them out. And it shows a quick flash of a scene where her and Sharon are walking through the halls and popular jock guys are staring. Its actually Angela that they are checking out. Not Sharon.

On a side note, I actually didn't think that Angela pulling away from Sharon and the popular crowd made her become invisible at all. If anything she gained a kind of infamy. She certainly didn't suffer from a lack of admirers and she seemed to be the centre of most of her friends universes. Even though Sharon was popular and in with the "in-crowd" you could tell that she was actually jealous of Angela in a lot of ways. As were various other characters throughout the series.
