I've just started watching the show, Angela seems really unlikeable...

(SPOILERS)

Does anyone else find Angela wholly unlikeable, self-centered and just obnoxious? I've just finished the fourth episode and she's certainly no Daria. I could get past the complaining about her parents becaues teenagers do that - I used to do that, and frankly still do sometimes, I'm 17. But some things just made her come across as completely horrid, like using the nerdy guy's house as an opportunity to try and hit on the Jared Leto character, and then shouting at him in the gun control episode. And the worst thing, the absolute most selfish thing was selling the Grateful Dead tickets that her father kindly gave to her (despite her friend wanting to go) and then trying swing the blame onto her father! That far surpasses typical teen attitude, it's just rotten. I still like the show a lot though - it seems far better and more realistic than most teen-dramas, soundtrack is okay too so far; some R.E.M. and stuff. I'm guessing the show will show Angela's transformation into a more rounded person, but 4 episodes in, I really dislike her.

The thing about Angela is that she's not presented as little miss perfect, she's a complicated, flawed young girl who makes the same stupid mistakes that many young people do. A lot of the time when people are young they do reaaaally awful things, and their decisions lack compassion, foresight, etc. So yes, sometimes her actions are morally ambiguous. I would argue that the only thing that distinguishes Angela Chase from most other normal teenage girls is her level of introspection, feeling, and "depth" as presented on the show. But that doesn't necessarily translate to her acting like a better person or more ethical/moral than any of her peers. Just my 2 cents.

So, about a month later, have you finished watching the show? While you may not have liked her in the first few episodes you watched, I'd find it hard to imagine you'd still feel the same way once you reached the end.

Angela is terrible - self-centered, obnoxious,a nd self destructive. She is a train-wreck. Rae-Ann is worse.

Some of the other characters make the show worth watching.

In my opinion the fact that she is so flawed is what makes it worth watching
