DVD Question: Why No Jared Leto in Interviews/Special Features?

Anyone know why Jared Leto was missing from the interviews/special features in the complete series DVD set? They had interview footage from every actor of every major character except his.

reply

Because he hated being on the show. He's ashamed of it. Even now he forbids all interviewers from ever bringing up the show or his character's name even.

reply

Really?
I mean it was a big deal and still is. He should be proud of it. He's done worse.

reply

I think it's not that he's disparaging of the material itself, I think he probably just knows that Jordan Catalano became such an iconic character for people of that generation, he doesn't want it to define him. He wants people to think of him as Jared Leto, the versatile actor who tackles all sort of unusual character portrayals, and not just "OMG, that's Jordan Catalano!!!" So he keeps a distance from anything MSCL.

Don't you just love the way he leans?

reply

Yep, he gets pretty pissed if even fans bring it up. Show up at a 30STM concert with a banner or tshirt that says anything about Jordan Catalano and see what happens.

reply

If that's true, that's pretty disrespectful. MSCL was a terrific show, it's even in the top 250 of IMDb and is recognised as one of the most popular cult shows of the 90s. We're I an actress I would have been proud to have been a part of it.

reply

It is true. I've seen him get pissed off in an interview. He's not as bad about it recently as he was in the first few years right after the show. Especially when 30stm first started. He hated for interviewers to bring up his acting in general because he wanted them to focus on the music, and the band had nothing to do with his acting. He never wanted to use his acting fame to plug the band. He is (or was) very serious about the music. He hated the heartthrob status from MSCL and it was one of his first acting gigs and he didn't think he was very good and that was one show you just never brought up in an interview.

reply

I guess I can see him not wanting to do interviews about it or requesting an interviewer only mention the music when that's what he's promoting, but getting mad at fans? That's not cool. Let's be honest, good band or not, 30 Seconds to Mars owes a lot of its (initial) fame and popularity to Jared's fans who followed him from his acting career - which includes My So-Called Life. Now, I'm sure there were people who became fans of the band and had no idea Jared Leto even had an acting career, but he has to understand that in the beginning, a big part of the reason why people even knew about and became interested in the band is because of who he is and who he played.

Many actors or performers probably do have parts of their past they're not completely happy with, but you shouldn't bite the hand that fed you through your rise to the top.

reply

You think that's bad? I saw them performing at a radio station type gig and Jared asked for requests for the last song and a fan asked him to play a song off their self titled first album and he said, "blow me.......next!" That's another thing he tends to get pissy about. Tomo too. They want to ignore their first album. Telling a fan "blow me"? Wow! If that had been me I'd tell him to go *beep* himself. Once again though, fans were defending his actions. I don't understand it.
