Late Gen Xers...

This is about the only show that sort of fit the late gen x demographic (those born between 1977-1981). There aren't many shows on there. Mellineals have Dawson's Creek, the OC, One Tree Hill, etc. True Gen Xers had Saved by the Bell, Friends, Beverly Hills 90210, etc. I think it was interesting. Claire Danes and I were both born 3 days apart in 1979. Not many of us "Carter babies". We are sort of the lost in-between generation.

I was born in 82. This is one of my all time fave shows then and still is I think it was great and maybe a head of its time.

"We are sort of the lost in-between generation" - That perfectly sums it up.

I was born in '84, but I know exactly what you mean. Personally, I consider those born between the late 70's and mid 80's to be Generation XY; the unofficial transition period between Gen X and the Millennial Generation. I had Boomer parents (both born in the early 50's, so I relate to being both a Gen X'er and a Millennial (more Gen X'er if I'm being totally honest). My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, and the OC pretty well encapsulates the cultural shift that I grew up in.

My parents were born in the 1930s- talk about a generation gap. I was the youngest of 5 children born in 1979. I consider 1982 and up to be Millennials, though.

I consider 1982 to be a part of generation X. I can tell it is,cause People who are younger than me seem to be ignorant about everything.

It depends on who you ask. Most people use 1981 as the cut off for Gen X.
Its very confusing. Some even say 1979 is the start of Gen Y/Millenials. But I think 1982 is definitely not Gen X!

Here is an article about it:

Terminology

Authors William Strauss and Neil Howe are widely credited with naming the Millennials.[1] They coined the term in 1987, around the time the children born in 1982 were entering preschool, and the media were first identifying their prospective link to the millennial year as the high school graduating class of the year 2000.[2] They wrote about the cohort in their 1991 book Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069,[3] and released a book in 2000 titled Millennials Rising: The Next Great Generation.[2]

I completely agree. I was a freshman in high school when this aired, so a year behind Angela and her friends. My younger sister loved Boy Meets World and the WB teen shows but I wasn't into them the way she and her friends were. You're right there aren't many defining coming of age shows for our in between generation (I once heard it called Catalano Xers lol). I'd add Felicity and maybe Blossom and Clarissa Explains it All, but that's it. At least we had Cluless (the movie)!
