Do parents like Graham and Patty actually exist?

I'm watching MSCL, again (!), and can't help but wish that my parents had been more like Angela's. While Patty sometimes grates on my nerves, I can also see where she's coming from, for the most part.

I just watched the episode about fathers and when Patty says to Graham, "you have to let Angela push you away, push you off your pedestal. She's right to do it and she's right on schedule," I just couldn't help but think that that reasoning would NEVER have worked in my household. (It would have been more of a "you will show your father respect or else" thing.)

The Chases have their flaws, but for the most part, they seem like fair, reasonable parents who respect Angela's privacy and are - generally - pretty cool about the things that come with being teenagers. Do parents like this actually exist? I don't know if I'm feeling my regret in vain here :)

Were they that fair and reasonable though? When i was a teen my parents let me have my gf stay in my bedroom all evening and sometimes sleep over. But just look at how scared angela was to even have jordan in her kitchen late one night. What was she so afraid of?

I can't think of anyone I know who was allowed to have their bf/gf sleepover in their room when they were a teenager. I would say your parents were much more lenient than most...

I have literally never heard of anyone in my life whose parents allow their kids' boyfriends and girlfriends to sleep over at their house/in their room--not 20+ years ago when this show took place and not now. That is absolutely not the norm. And kind of creepy, actually.

It's definitely not the norm but I don't see it as creepy. My mom would let my boyfriend's sleep over when I was a teen. They'd usually have to sleep on the couch but occasionally she'd let them sleep in my room. Then again she'd allow me to have coed sleepovers. My mom was just cool like that. She wouldn't take any nonsense though..if someone got out of hand she'd call their parents to come pick them up. Looking back I'm grateful she was cool about that stuff.
