TOW They're up all night: It seemed like they ran out of ideas on how to keep Chandler awake and it showed

TOW They're up all night is a filler episode, you know it, I know it. It would be one thing if it aired right before TOW Emma Cries, but it didn't. I don't know the exact reason why, but somehow the writers forgot that in the earlier seasons one of the recurring quirks that Chandler had was a sleeping disorder. He goes to a sleep clinic and gets in a semi serious relationship with someone who had a similar sleeping disorder [she shrieks in her sleep] Or maybe I'm all mixed up. Anyways, if I'm not mixed up then they could have just written a revision of the plot and have him admit to Monica that his former sleeping habit came back around as it would in real life, even though he's now been married to Monica for quite a while. See things like that can come and go that's why they're called recurring issues; it's because they come and go and they can come back when you least suspect. Meanwhile, everyone else had a real reason why they were delayed getting to bed that night:
Rachel at the office going through files with Tag? Check.
Something malfunctioned in Phoebe's apartment: Defective smoke detector? Check.
Monica too cranky to sleep? Check.
Joey and Toss finding themselves hanging for dear life on the side of a building? Check. Actually I'm confused about that; not how Joey and Toss ended up hanging on the building but how Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer didn't end up killing themselves in real life for the stunt as dangerous as it was in the process: something could have gone wrong and they could have ended up hanging themselves for real or falling off the roof of the building entirely and hitting the pavement. Both could have been dead in real life if they fell off the roof unless it was a prop; a swing-set design and only two stories, indoors with a green-screen CGI city below their feet.
But the closest any of them came to getting sleep that night was Monica and when it came to creative ways to keep Chandler awake, they ran out of ideas. It was just too much and it showed. It was god-awful embarrassing. Not only that, but it made Chandler come across as a jerk, an inconsiderate boob, who kept his wife awake, no wonder she was cranky and wanted to elbow him in the face; I almost wouldn't blame her if she did. [Luckily, she didn't.] Anyways, they had him do things; demand sex, make random noise with pots and pans, tell Monica he left his book in the kitchen? And he kept her awake all the while! When he thought Monica would have sex with him, but instead she forced him to clean the whole kitchen, deserved that! It was like you could see the straws they were grasping at to keep Monica and Chandler awake when they really could have avoided that had they just claimed Chandler's sleeping disorder came back!
