What is going on with "Joe"? First, he appears in several episodes of Season 1, then suddenly in the finale, Susan (the owner of the bookstore) announces that they are "adding" a coffee shop to the store (even though several episodes have already clearly shown Joe serving coffee to customers at tables!), they are having tables "put in," AND she tells Ellen that she has hired a new "barista" which turns out to be Joe! As if he was never there before! Then, in the first episode of Season 2, besides having her two best friends just disappear, a new friend (Page) suddenly materializes with no explanation or preamble, and Joe is now a fixture. Did the writers just think no one would notice that they couldn't make up their minds, and were playing fast and loose with the casting, or were they just f@€king with us right from the beginning?!? WTF?!?

the episodes were aired out of order in season 1. I hate it when that happens. I think the season 1 DVD has them in order but I may be wrong. The show was retooled on the request of ABC, due to public response to the characters.
