Getting Rid of 'Buy The Book' was a big mistake
Everyone blames the show getting cancelled on Ellen's coming out and the show becoming "too" gay in its final season - and while that certainly contributed to the downfall, I think getting rid of the bookstore was more upsetting to many fans, including myself. The sitcom constantly changed its focus and characters around (getting rid of Adam, and Holly and Anita in Season 1, changing Audrey's character, etc.) but Ellen and the bookstore were the main grounding factors through it all, and I think not only having the character being gay but getting rid of one of its main locations really hurt the show. It was too much change all at once. Maybe if they'd kept the bookshop, they could have survived to another season? As fans, did you think axing Buy The Book was a mistake or not?
