Can anyone tell me...

I was fairly young when this series was on the air, but I have always remembered it. I looked it up on amazon.com to see if they had the DVD (which they do) but instead of just 2 seasons there were four. Also, there seems to be another entry, for lack of a better word, for this series. Did the series continue on in Canada? And if so, why? What were the reasons they cancelled it in the states anyhow?

In the original series there were 2 seasons. There was then a third season made, sometimes refered to as a "spin-off" but it wasn't really as it carried on the main plot.
The first two seasons starred David Marciano as Det. Ray Vecchio (the Italian guy, always wearing bad suits). Then the third season starred Callum Keith Rennie as Det. Stanley "Ray" Kowalski, (spikey blonde hair, plenty of attitude, noticeably Canadian accent) an undercover cop taking Det. Vecchio's place as Det. Vecchio had "gone deep undercover with the mob". David Marciano guest stars in the final epsiodes of season 3.
For some DVD releases season 3 is split in two, making a "3rd" and "4th" season.
All in all there are 66 episodes (plus the 2 hr Pilot) made between 1994 and 1998.
If you're in Canada or the US you can get DVDs of the whole series signed by Paul Gross (Constable Benton Fraser) from his family's company badlandsbooks.com
good luck and enjoy, it's a brilliant series, a true one off masterpiece!

Thanks for the information and suggestions; I'll try to check it out. I recently rented the first season from my library and am rediscovering the series. It's been a long time since I've watched it. Thanks again.
