I'm not sure about the real reason why David wanted to leave the show. Perhaps he wasn't happy with his character in some way.

I actually liked both actors, David and Callum, playing 'Ray'. I'd only ever seen David in an episode of 'Wiseguy' where he played a psycho hitman. Callum, I'd never seen before, but I thought they both worked great with Paul as 'Fraser'.

"Old" Ray was my favourite, I never could take to "New" Ray.

vickimtubridy - I was reading some of the other posts and saw you were going to Canada for the 1st time. I have been there on holiday too and it was wonderful and I was going to recommend some of the places that I'd been to for your trip, but then I noticed that it was in 2007. I saw that other posters had asked you about your holiday since and it sounded like you had a great time. Canada is indeed a wonderful country to visit.

Who... are you?
A friend.

He agreed to come back but he was committed to something else at the time and he couldn't come back, that's why he came back for the finale, if he wanted to be down he wouldn't have come back

I really wish that they hadn't done the whole "the real Ray is *********" storyline. I loved the first episode of the 3rd season when everyone knew that it wasn't the same Ray, but no one was saying anything and acting like it was normal. There were even some scenes where people who knew the old Ray would see him, give him a funny look, then say something like "oh yea, that's right". Only Fraiser seemed to really be bothered and puzzled by the change.

It would have been a great running gag through the rest of the series if they had just "pulled a Darren", and used a different actor for the same character without coming up with an explanation for it (yet acknowledged it with little throwaway lines). Whenever an old friend shows up, he could give Ray that "WTF" look, make a little comment about how he's change over the years, then go on like nothing is wrong.

I liked both. And for the reasons why: Due South was canceld after seasn 2. It took some time, to get the money etc. to make season 3 and for. But by that time Marciano already moved and was prepared to move back again. So he choose not to be part of season 3.

After the end of the 1994 - 1995 season, CBS dropped the show, and CTV had to secure outside funding to finish off the year, even though CBS did order more episodes as a mid-season replacement in 1995 - 1996. The show was cancelled in 1996 due to low ratings, with the final episode airing in Canada in May of 1996. A year later, they resurrected some of the cast and crew to create the 1997 - 1999 spin-off. While many of the cast from the original show returned, they were unable to secure David Marciano to continue his role as Ray Vecchio. The ratings never lived up to the producers hopes, and the spin-off was cancelled after 26 episodes. There is often confusion as to whether the 26 episodes with Callum Keith Rennie is part of the original series with David Marciano, because the two series were combined and presented together in the United States as one series with three seasons.
