I used to adore this show
I thought David E. Kelley was one of the greatest TV writers of all time.
Then I watched all of The Practice. I'm wondering if I could see the first episodes of Chicago Hope and think they were all that good. Kelley has about five distinct characters in him, and possibly 20 plots that he mixes and matches. When he runs out of steam, he has characters rant -- the rants are interchangeable amongst the characters -- and watching it made me fear my eyes would roll out of my head.
I'd love to know if this show did the same thing, too. I saw it when I was young and hadn't watched enough TV to know if a show was formulaic or not. Once you see his formulas, though, you can't unsee them.
