I used to adore this show

I thought David E. Kelley was one of the greatest TV writers of all time.

Then I watched all of The Practice. I'm wondering if I could see the first episodes of Chicago Hope and think they were all that good. Kelley has about five distinct characters in him, and possibly 20 plots that he mixes and matches. When he runs out of steam, he has characters rant -- the rants are interchangeable amongst the characters -- and watching it made me fear my eyes would roll out of my head.

I'd love to know if this show did the same thing, too. I saw it when I was young and hadn't watched enough TV to know if a show was formulaic or not. Once you see his formulas, though, you can't unsee them.

I WATCHED THIS SHOW EVERY WEEK...FOR ONE REASON AND ONE REASON ONLY...MANDY PATINKIN...HE IS AMAZING IN EVEYTHING AND DR. JEFFREY GEIGER IS ONE OF HIS BEST CHARACTERS.

YES! And I fell in love with the writing. All of the characters -- well, heck. There were some fantastic actors on that first year. I stayed with it as long as Patinkin did. I think I heard he came back, but by that time I felt burned.

I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING REWATCHING THE SHOW....I AM RUNNING OUT OF NEW SHOWS I AM INTERESTED IN...TIME TO GO BACKWARDS I GUESS.....THIS AND ER WERE BOTH HUGE FOR ME AT THE TIME....PATINKIN AND ANTHONY EDWARDS...TWO OF MY FAVOURITE ACTORS....THEN AND NOW.

Once Patinkin leaves, it ceases to be as good, IMHO. But that coincides with Kelley leaving to do a mediocre women's show.

Responding to a post 2 years ago. What am I supposed to do now?
