sharei remember i was still in elementary (6th grade) and i only watched it because it was filmed in hawaii, but soon i was enthralled with the storyline not just the backdrop. i loved how they didn't portray the hawaiian people as "haole" haters as hollywood usually does, and it wasn't corny (baywatch hawaii, anyone?). why was it cancelled?
shareAlthough I had lived in Hawaii for several years at the time this show came out, I never watched it, because it was on opposite the "John Laroquette Show", and as I was newly sober at that time, JL's show was very pertinent to my life. I had to move my car, once, though, because they were filming at my job, and I parked right in the middle of the shot when I ran in to talk to one of my coworkers real quick.
shareABC decided they were going to either renew Byrds or My So Called Life, and they chose the latter...which was then cancelled after the next season anyway. I think if Byrds was given a chance at a second season, it would have been a very successful show.
So many more stories to tell about the Byrds in Hawaii. :(
