Exactly how many VHS and DVD releases have there been?

And of these, which contain "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window" and "Happy Birthday" and which contain "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree" and "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow"? Are there any other differences between the releases?

According to the IMDB's alternate Versions Listing

"Music changed on Gromit's birthday card. In the British version it plays "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow". In the American version it plays "Happy Birthday". Julian Nott's incidental music is also missing from the early part of the American version (from the opening until the appearance of the techno-trousers), possibly because it was on the same part of the soundtrack tape as the birthday card music. Music is also changed when the penguin is annoying Gromit by playing the organ music on his radio full blast. Different logo opening on Fox Video version."

Do I have a specific French version ? (zone 2, languages English and French)

The birthday card plays "Happy birthday to you"
When the penguin tunes the radio in Gromit's room, it plays "Tie a yellow ribbon"

When the radio plays full blast to annoy Gromit :
"Tie a yellow ribbon"
"Happy talk" says the subtitle
"How much is that doggy" says the subtitle

I did not recognise this last one (French version was sung in the early 50's by Line Renaud : Combien pour ce chien dans la vitrine ?)
Is it really taken from "Fantaisie & Variations Sur Le Carnaval De Venise" by Jean-Baptiste Laurent Arban ?

In R1, there were three DVD releases.

The first was released by Fox in 1996 and was called Wallace and Gromit: The First Three Adventures (1990-1995). This is the only DVD that contains the original music used in The Wrong Trousers. The special features include some of Nick Park's early animations, BBC interstitials, and excerpts from "Inside the Wrong Trousers." The cover is lime green with just Wallace's head on the left and Gromit's head on the right.

The next release was by Warner Brothers and was called The Incredible Adventures of Wallace and Gromit. This DVD came out after Chicken Run was released in theaters, so the DVD covers say, "From the makers of Chicken Run." Special features on this release are commentary by Nick Park for all three shorts, behind the scenes footage, a scrapbook with blueprints of Wallace's inventions, and a photo gallery. The cover art is light blue with Wallace and Gromit in their motorcycle/sidecar with Shaun in an airplane.

Finally, there is the 2005 version titled Wallace and Gromit in Three Amazing Adventures. The special features include Cracking Contraptions and a preview of Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The cover art is a darker blue and shows Wallace and Gromit from the waist up giving the thumbs up sign. Shaun is on the left in front of Wallace, Feathers is on the right in front of Gromit, and in the background is the moon.

ETA: The movies were originally offered on VHS as three separate movies. They were later packaged together (still on three different tapes but in a special box set). Both the individual tapes and the box set were released by Fox, so they have "Happy Birthday to You," "How Much Is that Doggie in the Window," etc.

There was another VHS release by Warner Brothers that put all three shorts on one tape. The cover art is the same as the DVD release of The Incredible Adventures of Wallace and Gromit, and the music was changed in this version.

I can't find a version with the original music anywhere! I have the DVD with the changed music and the VHS I just rented, though the card does play 'Happy Birthday' had changed music also. I bought a VHS from Amazon and I'm hoping it will have the original "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" and "Doggy in the Window" music. It seems like an impossible quest!

it's sad cos i first watched the original video with the original music but we lost it, and especially the happy birthday music was a really good but, it made me sympathize with gromit. but now that version I can never watch again :(

As of right now, each of the first three shorts (and possibly the fourth) have been released individually on DVD, and all four shorts are included in the Complete Collection Blu-ray. I don't know about the organ music, but the birthday card still plays "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" on the Blu-ray. I seem to recall that the organ music has been changed on the individual DVD release.

AFAIK, the only releases that haven't had some kind of music replacement are the original VHS and "The First Three Adventures" DVD. I'll concede that "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" would have been more likely to be the original music for the birthday card given that it was a UK production, but many sources lead me to believe that it was "Happy Birthday To You" all along and was changed.
