When and how did the guy get into the house? Didn't she realize that he was in there when the tea kettle went off after she turned the stove off?

He came in through the kitchen door. It was unlocked. It's not clear when he came in... he was probably in and out several times.

And, no, she must not have realized someone was in there; she should have though. First, the tea kettle started whisling after she turned the stove off; then, the page in her notebook with the information on it went missing; then, the note from the doctor's wife on the refrigerator went missing. She didn't move them and those things don't move themselves. That should've given him away.

He cut the phone lines too, didn't he? I mean, that was part of a game to him wasn't it? He kept asking her to call even though he knew the phone wasn't working. It was just to toy with her, right?

Yes, he cut the phone lines and asked her to call the auto club just to have a little fun with her. At least, that's what it seems.

Julia was interupted when she was making the tea. we do see her turning of the stove to anwser the door. After the converstaion with Landis she checks the children when she hears the tea kettle. I think she noticed it but thought maybe she just forgot to turn off the tea kettle.
