Did she, didn't she?/ the shooting scene (Spoilers)

Did Julia shoot herself? I know Julia's journal said it's dark, I can't see, Jill where are you. It was brought to my attention she might have not wrote that. Landis might have. He said it was dark, I can't see to Jill at the end of the film.

So that brings me to my next question did she shoot herself just to get away from Landis? I thought if Julia did shoot herself, the scene where Landis going into her hospital room and hitting her makes more sense.

Any thoughts about this?

and why did Julia go back to the apartment in the first place? I know the film didn't explain that but I was wondering what others thought?
I had my own ideas but then I read the messages boards and made me re-think the film.

Her being suicidal would explain why she went back to her apartment.I always thought Landis lured her back but the reason above seems more likely.

I am bothered over the flashing clock. I think the lamp was sharing the same socket. I believe Landis most likely wrote the entry in the diary. I just wonder if Julia shot herself when the he turn off the lights, because wouldn't she had a chance to fire off a shot if Landis came towards her? but things were knocked over like the lamp, so maybe they did fight for the gun and he did shoot her when she went for the door.

I still can't believe I missed some of the details like Landis really being the one who wrote the entry. I think I got off track when Jill read the entry in the diary out loud to Clifford. I just persumed Julia had written that, which made it sound like Julia was waiting for Jill.

I like what you came up with that there was a struggle.

I am now sure Landis wrote it because of the ending and the fact that Julia wrote in cursive and the other entry was in print. I still can't believe I didn't catch on at first, I knew what Landis said at the end was from Julia's journal, That should have clued me in that he wrote the entry. Also Julia would not stay in a dark apartment. She would have got out of there, the previous scenes showed what she did when things were not right, like when she found the shirt in her closet, she went to the police. so julia is not going to write a journal enrty when she thinks she is in danger or something does't seem right,I think I was just thrown off, why she went back to her apartment?

I agree Julia seemed distraughted when she wrote in her journal and we seen the gun on the table. I had my boyfriend watch the film with me last night. He didn't think Julia went back to her apartment because she was sucidal. He thought she was way too self reliant and strong will. Julia didn't want to rely on Jill. Jill offer Julia to stay at her apartment as long as she needed to, shortly after Julia was back at her apartment. Maybe that is what happened the night of the shooting.
