She had 3 deadbolts?? I just watched the film today. It was on a cable channel. Maybe they edited it or something but we never know how he did anything
shareIn the film, the fat detective once suggested to Jill that the stranger was a locksmith (in addition to being a ventriloquist). A locksmith with the proper set of tools would be able to pick a lock of the deadbolt type in minutes (a spring lock would be much, much easier). I once lost a whole bunch of home keys and so I know. It would cost you a lot! With three deadbolts, I suspect it would be cheaper to break down and then replace the whole door if you lose the only set of keys.

If you recall in the original movie, Cliff rescues Tracy when Tracy screams because Duncan is in her apartment. He runs back up the stairs, gets to her door, it's deadbolted, and in a matter of seconds he picks the lock open to get inside her apartment. The pick is left in the lock as he runs into the apartment (and mysteriously isn't there as he is leaving, but oh well). He knows how easy it is to unlock a deadbolt with the right tool.
