What kind of person gets excited about working at a burger joint?

I'm sure with that kind of enthusiasm, he made regional manager in no time, lol!

I always laughed at Tucker working at Burger Barn. Maybe he wanted a more stable job. Sometimes working a trade isn't good because they are gaps between jobs.

I think it's more than just that he was thrilled to work at a fast food corp. The town had little opportunity. It represents perfectly what these 'industries' do to small town life. The same comparison could be drawn with the Food Land. Little business goes, and big moves in. While the local grocery Gilbert worked for at one time thrived, they cannot afford to pay 50 employees. Food Land could, as could Burger Barn. It is essentially the death of the independent salesman/unskilled worker. Sure, Tuck could probably move up pretty fast with his work ethic and such, but he will still be in Endora. He will not leave, and perhaps he is ok with that. But our protagonist Gilbert, is certainly not ok with settling for such. No matter where he will end.

precisely. this movie portrays the beginning of big corporations opening up in every town and city enabling jobs but also ending those who had established themselves before. the unease gilbert feels and then the amazement of how everything is just instant and ready to buy is overwhelming.

it's a dirty world Reich, say what you want

In the book, I think he lives in his parent's garage and collects beer cans. Tucker really didn't have much going for him or to look forward to, so I guess a new company that was growing and going places was a big jump for him! :)
