Amazing scope and story, cool characters, great action and the so called "unnecessary" rape scenes are a non-issue, they just add to the outworldy atmosphere. Forget all the pathetic kiddie anime out there, this will make you bust a nut. The music is terrific too.

i've seen the uncut version, it acatually had a plot before the bbfc cut the good stuff out along with the storyline, it's not perfect but it was one of my first anime's so for me it's nostlagia

This was the first anime I had ever seen, other than like Speed Racer, and I have yet to find a film to match it. It was SO GREAT!! This has been my favorite movie forever, and there have been a ton of lines that have been sampled into some of the greatest hard house I have ever heard... I just wish I could find the vinyl!!!!

Geeez- if you went that gaga over this you should try some REALLY good anime. Of course it normally doesn't involve violent demon rape. I liked the story to this and enjoyed the two I have seen, but I would never rate it half as good as a lot of the anime out there. Shop around- if you liked this you will probably like most things.

Oh that is for sure! I love a ton of the Anime movies out there, and half of them are for kids, or the new Disney remakes of the Myazaki films, which I think most of have been very well done.
I will say that half of my excitement over this movie was it was my introduction to Anime when I was in High School long ago... And living here in Utah, I had just never seen anything so dark and erotic all in a cartoon. Of course my taste has generally matured for "erotic" and this film is hard to find erotic anymore as people are getting raped as a city is being destroyed, but I was 15!
But as it was the first time I had seen anything like this, I have always held it as one of the best Anime films ever. Now the sequels.... The second was ok, and then I got lost in the 3rd and 4th... But the first here was amazing.
