Where did the Makemono come from?

Any ideas? They seem a bit of a plot hole to me, these 'Demon Beasts'. The most obvious plot hole is where Idaten (a teenage Makemono) in Udoji IV gives Hime/Kyo-Oh a charm from his village (looks like the one Niki kept, belonging to Akemi). He says it's been passed down in his village for 'generations'. Yet the Makemono are only twenty years old, at the very most. And they have varying ages, e.g. Gashim who is an elderly man.

Funnily enough, their origin was never even explained...

The Makemono were the creations of Anime 18 and Central Park Media when they continued the American versions of Urotsukidoji part 1 and 2. In the original continuity, they are a plothole because there are no Makemonos. Toshio Maeda explained that there are half-demon, half-Jyujin crossbreeds that have existed before, but they are rare and he never called them Makemonos. In fact, the Amano siblings can be considered Makemonos of a sort because some of their ancestors were Majin. But in Urotsukidoji III and IV, which is the new continuity, the Makemonos are apparently a crossbreed species that has existed for many years, but only in the last twenty years or so their population has become increased to the point where they are now very common. The elder half-demon, half-Man-Beast hybrids are the demon-beasts that have been around for centuries. The younger ones are the ones born recently. I guess you could say that since Anime 18 and C.P.M. decided to continue the stories of Urotsukidoji beyond what Toshio Maeda had written in the original continuity, they figured that they could add their two cents into the already tired plot by adding a new race to the mix. In that way, they continued the franchise in order to extend the story beyond its original end.

Hmmm I never knew about crossbreads existing pre-apocalypse. Thanks for the info. In The Urotsuki/New Saga, Amano is called a 'Demi-Beast', and his connection the Makai is used to help gain entry to the Human World. I also think the Makai Queen in The Urotsuki is Amano's mother. She looks like a Jyujin (and Amano), and amongst her statues (that represent her sexual conquests) is one of Amano's father. Which in this case means Amano has sex with his own mother...

Anywho, in Udoji III's last chapter, Gashim postulates 'So how do you think we Makemono came to be born after the destruction of the three worlds'? Now I know Kiseki's dubbing was less than convincing, but I doubt the original line was too dissimilar. Although I guess that's a credible explanation, the Man-Beasts & Demons interbreeding, and then the Makemono numbers growing post-apocalypse.

Do you know anything about Maeda's manga after the original? I've heard there is one called 'Return of the Superchild', which involved Amano witnessing events after Nagumo wrecked the world?

Well, to be honest with you, I've never heard of the Return of the Superchild series of manga. I always thought that after Urotsukidoji: Book Six, the story ended with, "And thus...Tokyo was no more!" and the story was done. Beyond that, I can't really say much about what else that was added to the Urotsukidoji storyline. If Urotsukidoji: New Saga is supposed to be the updated, remade version/sequel/continuation of the original series by Anime 18 and Central Park Media, then I guess that cartoon series must be loosely based on Return of the Superchild's plot. At least, I think. I hope.
As for the Makemono overpopulating during the Chojin's destruction of Earth, Makai and Jyujinkai, it would make sense. I mean, with so much chaos happening in all three dimensions, I think that it's a safe bet that there were a lot of Majin men raping a lot of Jyujin women, and a lot of Majin women seducing a lot of Jyujin men. The end result of over 20 years of illegitimate kids being born from lust and rape could've caused a serious spike in the population of demon-beasts. Most are probably like Gashim, old and well over 200 or 300 years old, but those few elders were only scattered around here and there.
Gashim must have been shocked to see so many young demon-beast kids springing up from 1993(when Overfiend began destroying Earth) to the time period of Ceasar's rule of post-apocalyptic Japan(2013 A.D.). By the time of Urotsukidoji IV(which was about a year or two after Urotsukidoji III, or the year 2014 A.D., or 2015 A.D.) the populations of the four races must have become decreased considerably, due to the destruction caused by Overfiend and when the Judging Light caused everyone to kill each other. Either way you look at it, the Makemono are viewed as disgusting half-breeds by both man-beast and demon alike, a taboo existence maligned as much as racist humans hate bi-racial children. A product of both worlds, but not good enough to be accepted into either one.
