Anyone from Minneapolis??

I'm moving to Minneapolis in the spring and I was wondering if anyone knows the area well. I need to know what part of the city is safe and what one to stay away from. It would be nice to know a little about St. Paul too, since I will be working there.
Any ideas??

The south part of Minneapolis is pretty safe, but I don't know much about St. Paul, I don't pay any attention.

I'm a NYC native, saw this wonderful movie when I was in school in Boston, before I moved to Mpls. I know both Mpls and St. Paul very well. I miss both Boston and NY, but I like the Twin Cities. Let me know if you want to know more.

Cool, New York city is an awesome city, never been there, but I like the way the people talk. Anyway, do you know if there are certain parts of the Twin Cities to watch out for? Like certain neighborhoods? Any replies would be much apreciated!

I grew up in a northern suburb of Minneapolis called Blaine that is very safe, but I am not sure what part of Minneapolis you will be working. If its south Mpls, then your better off living down there. The last poster is correct, most areas of south Minneapolis are safe. Good luck! Enjoy the summers they are awesome up there!

thanks for the info!! It's much appreciated!

South Minneapolis is relatively safe, as is St. Paul by the Mississippi River (Highland Park area). "Northeast" Minneapolis, as it's called is OK too (not to be confused with North Minneapolis, which isn't). Close in suburbs like St. Louis Park, Edina, Eden Prairie and Golden Valley are all nice too.

Thanks for the info! This has helped me out alot!

I live in Richfield, which is right next to South Minneapolis. Most of South Minneapolis is okay, depends on which parts. Southwest Minneapolis is probably the best (closer to Edina). I would stay away from the North side and Central area. I grew up in Bloomington and have been here my whole life so it's a good place to live.

*raises hand* I live 20 minutes away from MPLS. I suggest you don't go into the warehouse district...at night....by yourself....see what happened to Caroline?

I've lived in Coon Rapids most of my life, then to Columbia Heights. Now I live in Ramsey.

The metro area is growing, and with growth you're going to find lower income areas in almost every town. I guess crime wise, you're going to find like any state, there's good and bad people just about everywhere. Most Minnesotans are great people, and will go out of their way to be nice.

That is until you get behind the wheel. Minnesotans are pretty rude drivers.

Actually, that scene was filmed by St. Anthony Falls. Anyway, stay the bleep away from Lake Street or anything in the Three Corners neighborhood, it's now overrun by Somalian thugs. Anything south of there is pretty decent (as long as it's not near Chicago Avenue, either). Let us know how it went.

The only problem with South Minneapolis, and specifically Lake Nokomis, is the close proximity to the enormous, three-runway airport! Kind of spoils the whole reason for living near the lake. Bring a snow rake for your roof, too, if you intend to buy and not rent! Needless to say, I don't live there anymore.

Me, I lived in St. Louis Park for years and loved hanging out at nearby Lake Calhoun, which they changed the name to Mde Maka Ska in 2018.
