Actually, when movies are filmed, it isn't unusual to have multiple takes of scenes.
In some cases, the director isn't satisfied with something in the take, or wants to try a different angle/version/approach, or has only one camera, requiring another angle to show a different actor. Some directors have even been known to take suggestions from the cast members... When it comes to the final edits/cutting of the movies, some have time limits forced on them as well, requiring use of less-preferred scenes, and sometimes nearly, or, completely cutting out an actor's parts/storylines.
Occasionally, there are other factors at work... One well known ROSEANNE episode has an unknown girl in a scene walking out of the kitchen, with almost the entire family in the shot. I remember seeing that and wondering "who was that?". As the *other factors* go, the original actress playing BECKY was off the show, replaced by that girl, and shortly came back to the show, so all possible appearances of *new BECKY* were edited out and re-shot with the original actress. The *buzz* had her remaining in that one scene because the show couldn't schedule all of the other actors for a re-take before the episode had to air. Such is life...
Then, there is the issue of movie rating that has to be considered because it has a BIG effect on how many people might go see it, (or put another way, how many people would avoid it...).
I was personally surprised to see the multiple assaults, aggravated assaults, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and well, you get the idea, (and none of that is referring in any way to the hockey game *smile*)... and the amount of bra-and-panties, (minus the NETFLIX version part)... PG-13, huh.
And it would seem that the NETFLIX version, with a glimpse of b00bs, would have forced an R-rating? Huh.
For what it's worth, there are other movies, like the *recalled* SWAMP THING version for one. Oddly enough, at least some of the Blockbuster rental stores got the recalled version, and didn't seem to have returned them, (I bought one used, from a Blockbuster, without knowing anything about the recall at the time).
Another one that comes to mind is BEST FRIENDS, and that has come out on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray now, (more?), minus at least half of Goldie Hawn's topless scenes (edited out when compared to the HBO broadcast version)... Unfortunately, one of the edits was in a very significant scene, and changed the tone of that entire scene, originally very emotional - changed to gratuitous nudity IMHO. And other married couples wondered why I recommended that movie - then I saw the commercial release, **SIGH**. The edited scene was referenced later in the movie, also in a signifcant emotional scene, and it was *poisoned* by the edited scene. (Yes, I saw it on HBO first).
I had to quit recommending that movie after I saw the edited version; who would have thought removing about five seconds would change the overall reaction to an entire movie? (For those that wonder just what was different, here is the spoiler:
Goldie's character was undecided whether she was actually in love with Burt Reynold's character, they were best friends, and she hesitated to join him in the shower (she was changing clothes), then turned, opened the shower door, signalling she did love him by joining him in the shower. Removing that part of the scene left out the decision she made, and just appeared to be gratuitous when she was abruptly shown in the shower... thus spoiling the later reference she made when she asked Burt's character to take a shower with her, and he didn't. See what I mean?
