God! Did anyone else notice how "out of it" the music in this film was compared to most other Ghibli Films? Maybe its just me but it did feel somewhat different and even had an affect (not in a bad way of course) on the film. Who was the composer?

According to AnimeNewsNetwork, the composer was Shigeru Nagata.
Agreed; this is one of my favorite Ghibli soundtracks.

I though I was the only one impressed by that.
One of the less obvious film scores I have heard. Very original, but at the same time discreet and in a good taste.
It really adds something to an already good film.

I'm glad someone mentioned the music. It really is one of the best things about this film. It reminds me of the scenes from the movie and the bittersweet memories from my school years. One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard!
