What made (and still does make) the late, great Krzysztof Kieslowski (as a writer – director), so unique and compelling to you, compared to other (living or now deceased) writer – filmmakers you also admire ?
his movies make you think about personal things i.e alot of the people in his films are rather 'everyman' and their experience can/do happen to most/all of us. i also like the way (like the elpises in 'bleu') he gives you time to think. it's often like seeing people from inside their minds. and preisner often does the music and his compositions are beeeaaautiful!
Because his movies are visually stunning, have a great script, routinely feature superb performances for the leads, exceptional DP work and soundtrack.
Above all, his films, along the ones from true auteurs like Tarkovksy, Ozu, Bergman, Visconti, Bresson, are deeply personal and lead you to think about your life, your love, and your fate. You cannot get the characters of your mind long after watching his films and you are forced to revisit them again and again.
There is so much magic in his films that Kieslowksi has vaulted all the way to #2 on my all time favorite director list behind Tarkovsky.
for me Kieslowski's "humanism" is what attracts me more from his movies. Other filmmakers (as great as him) are wittier and more caustic on his social comments like Buñuel or digs deeper in the human psyche (Bergman) or into the human absurdity (Fellini). But no one shows more respect for the human being than Kieslowski. just watch besides this trilogy, his polish films and you'll know what I am talking about.
