does anyone else have mixed feelings about this?

Obviously, this is a well-made, thoughtful, quality movie, but I couldn't help but feel a little dissatisfied by the time it ended. I have found this to be common with many French films, especially with the new wave from the 60s. The film is composed of beautiful shots and moments, the acting is great, but I find myself wondering, when is something going to happen? I get to the point where I'm wondering if there's anything really significant anyone has to say. I mean, as far as plot, all there is is the story is a woman who suffers a terrible tragedy, she feels empty, then begins to fell a little better.

Please don't jump on me and accuse me of being a dumb American who only likes Adam Sandler flicks -- I'm just wondering if anyone else feels a little cheated after it's all over, like it's a mediocre flick but done in an excellent way, if that makes sense.

I'm not sure if I'm the right person to answer this....mainly because I'm very biased towards this film. It's on the top of my greatest-movie-of-all-time-list....

All I can say is that this film is, for me, about strong emotions connected through music.
...and that you shouldn't/can't hide from your past, no matter how much you try!
Plus "love conquers all". What's not to like about that?

If you expected "something" to happen....it does, but it's done a lot more subtle than one usually sees in more mainstream movies....

Btw. Did you watch this on DVD or TV? I know that the Region1-DVD omitts the translation of the greek lyrics during the final sequence/montage...
....this could make the ending seem a bit unresolved...

I saw this on DVD -- I don't remember any subtitles for the ending -- what did it say?

I can understand why people enjoy this movie, but I'm just not getting it. As a comparison, Dead Man is one of my all time favorites, but it's very slow and not a whole lot happens, although it is filled with a lot of symbolism and metaphor.

Blue seems to be lacking the symbolism. I'm wondering if there's something lost in the translation -- not dialogue, but something cultural or specifically "French". Maybe I have to watch the whole trilogy to really get it.

I just read the translated lyrics below and I'm disappointed that the DVD omitted these. It makes the whole film that much more powerful.
