The Glass Coffin
We all know that the final montage is about Julie's "resurrection" but was having her and Olivier making love in a glass coffin taking the idea a bit too far?

I don't think it was a coffin but I'm not sure. Listening to an interview with a crew member, it's quickly stated that them being visible through glass is an allusion to all of humanity. Probably an idea linked to the french revolution motive of the movie.
And it's also related to her "rebirth" though perhaps not quite so obviously.
I don't think it was a coffin but I'm not sure.I watched this again last night, then watched the ending act just now after reading some posts on this board. It sure seems like a coffin to me as it looks like that are roots, and above them, stalks of some kind as the scene fades to black.
I equated this scene to her swimming scenes. Her freedom in the pool was temporary and illusory, she had to hold her breath, it was forced.
Later, she discovered the true version of freedom, letting go.
