That easy to fake your grades?

When Toby decides to apply for prep school, he forges his school grades with a little help from his friend, Arthur. Was it that easy to fake your grades in the 50s? Obviously the schools didn't find anything wrong with his applications. On the contrary, he even got an offer from one of them. Am I missing something here, or is there anyone else who found this a bit odd?

i remember forging a grade or two here & there in the 80s so it couldn't have been all that hard in the 50s.

It was in the days before computers. Everything then existed only in paper copy. Some weren't backed up and those that were often had one or few copies.
