Faye Dunaway
Dunaway once again channels Joan Crawford in her over-the-top turn as Charlene Towne in this film. The Queen of High Camp retains her crown with one of the campiest performances she has ever given.

shareDunaway's performance in this movie didn't work for me at all. (I love the rest of the movie even though I know it's a terrible movie). I'm not familiar with Joan Crawford's style, so perhaps Dunaway's joke went over my head. But anyway her performance needs to work even independently of any inside joke. Everyone else in the movie is fantastic, Dunaway is the only one that doesn't work. Whatever she was attempting failed. It's just too corny and over the top. To me it came across as unintentionally bad, hammy acting and was not funny. Nothing else in the movie is overtly or intentionally funny so if she was aiming for funny I think it was a mismatch.
shareYou all need lobotomies or something? This film was a satire, and Faye was tongue in cheek for sure, but not 'over the top" or "campy". It really is ridiculous that people seem to think of her as the "queen of camp" or that she's always "over the top". Just knock that stereotyping off already. It gets old quickly. I for one enjoyed Ms. Dunaway in this film immensely. One of her best "Post Mommy" performances.
She knows how to work the films she is in, because she knows how to work the script. She can see how the film might come out in it's finished product. Rarely can anyone do this, but Faye sure can, and does. I suppose that's why she requires such special attention for the work she does, but she certainly deserves it for what she can do. She's one of the best!
So back off and don't hate with your stereotyping her credits the way you all do.
I thought she was over-the-top fun by ay yi yi that face, I couldn't look at her without thinking of all the work she'd had done (and this movie is 20 yrs old) and there were some really creepy close-ups. Kinda makes me sad to see a beautiful woman get distorted that way
Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!
